RAVA UPMA - How to make Rava Upma

Ingredients:

  • Rava/Sooji - 1 cup (250ml)
  • Onion - 1 finely chopped
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Curry leaves - a twig
  • Dry red chillies - 2 
  • Ginger - a small piece finely crushed and chopped
  • Carrot - 1 
  • Beans - 3 
  • Mustard - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Urad dal - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chana dal - 1 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida - 1 pinch
  • Salt - As needed
  • Ghee - 4 tablespoon
  • Oil - 4 tablespoon
  • Water - 3 cup water
  • Cashews - 3/4 pieces

Method:

  1. Heat a pan and add the oil.
  2. Once the oil is heated enough, splutter some mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal and asafoetida.
  3. Now, add the onions, ginger, curry leaves, green chillies and red chillies.
  4. When the onion turns transluscent, add the salt.
  5. Add the water and raise the flame, till the water boils up.
  6. Add the Rava by stirring the water and simmer the flame. 
  7. Cover with a lid, and let it cook for 3-4 minutes.
  8. Now, open the lid, and add 2 tablespoons of ghee.
  9. Once the rava is completely cooked, turn off the flame and add the remaining ghee over the upma.

Note: Dry roast the rava, before cooking.
